Tennessee football coach Jeremy Pruitt caught up with Erik Ainge and Brian Rice Thursday morning on The EA Show to discuss his coaching career up to this point and the overall state of the program entering the summer months.

During the interview, Pruitt was asked of the versatility of his defense and the differences in his scheme compared to year’s prior.

“Personally, I think the 3-4, 4-3 argument is overrated. If you’re playing a 3-4, somebody is going to be the fourth rusher — whether it’s an outside linebacker or an inside linebacker. If you watch us over the years, there are some games where we play mostly 3-4 and there are some games where we play mostly a four-man front. For me, I think if you want to be good on defense you need to be multiple, which we are. So, from Jonathan [Kongbo] playing outside linebacker — when recruiting outside linebackers —  we are really just recruiting pass rushers. We aren’t worried a whole lot about dropping into coverage. I don’t see our 3-4 outside linebackers any different than a 4-3 defensive end.”
